NATHAN TRANNEL MALE/SCHOLAR ATHLETE FOR 2009/2010

Nathan Trannel was named the 2009/2010 Male Scholar Athlete and Male Athlete of the Year at the annual awards banquet at Onalaska. Nathan carried over a 3.95 GPA and participated in Football, Hockey, and Track in his 4 years at OHS, being named All-Conference on several occassions. Nathan has informed this reporter, that he has been accepted to several Big 10 Colleges, but will hold off his final decision pending upcoming Junior Hockey drafts and tryout camps. Wisconsin Wins MN NIT Tournament

Team Wisconsin Seniors won the inaugural MN NIT Tournament this weekend with a 4-1 win over Team North Dakota. Onalaska Senior Nathan Trannel logged 1 goal and 3 assists on the tourney, putting him in the Top 10 of tourney scorers.  Wisconsin was 3-1,  also beating Team Michigan and Team Minnesota 18’s on the weekend. This event is a major venue for HS seniors to showcase their talents for Junior, College and other scouts. This year’s WIS team was coached by Onalaska’s Tim Ebner. CONGRATS GENTELMEN!

2nd ANNUAL JACOB TRANNEL GOLF OUTING!

The 2nd Annual Jacob Trannel Memorial Golf outing will be this coming July 12 at the LaCrosse Country Club. The event has a 12:00 Noon shotgun Start. Please put it on your calendar. We’ll have more details soon!

Mitch Thompson at NCAA Nationals

Mitch Thompson, a member of the Badger men’s hockey team, heads to the rink for practice during this years National Title Run. Mitch has been the 3rd goalie this season, but suited for several games. Congratulations Mitch and the Badgers for a great season!Mitch at Nationals

TRANNEL MAKES WISCONSIN SHOWCASE TEAM

Senior Nathan Trannel has been selected to participate in this years Senior Showcase team in Minnesota later this month. Nathan was selected after two weekends of tryouts and cuts. The Showcase, use to be played in Chicago, but will debut in Minneapolis this year for the first time. Teams from all around the USA will by vying for the National Championship title. Onalaska’s Mason Selacek and Vlado Hegley also made it to the final camp. Last years showcase team included Jordan Guth and Jordan Tredinnick from Onalaska.Trannel Skating

GABE FLOOD MAKES CENTRAL DISTRICT CUT

Flood SkatingOnalaska Freshman forward Gabe Flood has advanced to the Central Districts level from the WAHA Midget camps this weekend. Gabe, a 94 will be making his 2nd trip to the advanced level. Onalaska’s Keaton Bronston participated in the 93 main camp this past weekend.

Bottcher Competes in Junior “A” Nationals

OHS Hockey Alumni Mike Bottcher recently competed in the Junior “A” National Championships in Marlborough, MA. Mike, a member of the TIER 3 El Paso Rhinos, was selected for the Western States Hockey League (WSHL) All-Stars as a defenseman. The tournament started March 25, 2010. 5 OHS Seniors Compete in WIS Senior Tournament

Nathan Trannel, Nathan Groshek, Igor Karaba, Vlado Hegely, and Mason Sedlacek will all be competing March 26 – 28 in Waupun, WIS for the Annual Senior Tournament. These players will compete with other Section 4 players, hoping to be selected for the 2010 Senior Showcase Classic to be help in MN in April. The Showcase includes teams from all around the USA, and is a venue to give Junior scouts a chance to observe some of the State’s top hockey talent. Good Luck Gentlemen!

WCHC All-Conference Named

The West Central Hockey Conference released their All-Conference Selections today, and six Onalaska players were selected. First Team All-Conference included Forward Jesse Tredinnick, Defenseman Mason Sedlacek, and Goalie Scott Sibik. Second team All-Conference included Forward Nathan Trannel, and Honorable mention included Forward Vlado Hegley and Defenseman Igor Karaba. CONGRATULATIONS GENTLEMEN! Scott Ackerson receives FRIENDS OF OHS HOCKEY award!

Long time OHS Boys hockey announcer Scott Ackerson has been awarded the FRIENDS OF OHS HOCKEY Award for his long term service and commitment to announcing home games for the team. Scott has been announcing the games “gratis” for over 9 years. Since Scott was on vacation for the banquet, the board presented the award at a special dinner with Scott’s family at OUTBACK.
