2005 – 2006 Season

Onalaska loses to Wis Rapids in Sectional Final
2005–2006 Boys Hilltopper Hockey Recap
The 2005-06 season was another exiting year for the OHS Boys Hockey team. Our team consisted of eight seniors, three juniors, nine sophomores, and one freshman. As in the past, the first half of our season began with a difficult non-conference schedule. Midway through the season we had an
8-2 record and showed how well we could play. We continued to play well during the second half of our season achieving the same 8-2 record, giving us a regular season talley of 16 wins and 4 losses. The team was able to build off of the previous season’s experience and finished 1st in both the NCHL and the MVC. We scored 123 goals, giving up only 42, which is an improvement of plus 29 from the previous season.
We went into the playoffs with confidence, but knew we would need to play well to advance. After beating La Crosse in our opening game, we then had to face Sparta in the Sectional Semi Final game. Sparta gave us two of our regular season losses and we knew it would be a battle. Our players rose to the challenge in the playoffs and beat Sparta 4-2. The players have a great deal to be proud of by reaching the Sectional Final for the second straight year. Although we did not advance to the State Tournament we out played one of the top ranked teams in the State – Wisconsin Rapids in a very competitive game. Our overall record was 18-5.
