3 Hilltoppers Make ALL-STATE!

New ImageOHS 2010 SedlacekOHS2010 SibikGoalie Scott Sibik, Defenseman Mason Sedlacek and Forward Jesse Tredinnick were all named to the WHCA All-State team Honorable Mention for the 2010 season. Other area player included Sparta’s goalie Ethan Anderson. CONGRAT’S GENTLEMEN!

Keaton Bronston All-State WEHL Team

OHS2010 BronstonKeaton Bronston has been named to the 2010 Wisconsin Elite High Schoool League All-State team as a 2nd team defensemen.   Keaton plays for the U16 Western team, which is comprised of players from Eau Claire, Tomah, Menomonie, Sparta and other WAHA Region 6 teams.  The team competes in a 20 game season prior to the WIAA season, then the team plays post season tournaments that include State TIER II, then Central Districts, then hopefully a shot at the TIER II National Championship.  Other Onalaska players on the team include Gabe Flood, Avery Waldera, Jake Taylor, and Jesse Tredinnick.  Jacob McCabe from Sparta was named All-State Honorable Mention as a forward.

ONA FALLS IN SECTIONAL FINAL 2-3 in OT

_DSC6831The Onalaska Hilltoppers boys hockey team took it to the max before falling to Wisconsin Rapids 2-3 in Overtime. Rapids took a 2-0 lead in the first, on two power play goals. Nathan Trannel made it 1-2 at the first intermission.
The score would stay 1-2 until Randy Burkhardt found the net mid-3rd to tie the game 2-2. Ona had the momentum going into the OT. A turnover in our zone, led to a wrap around winner by Rapids with 1:00 left in the first OT.

The Hilltoppers finished with a great season going 19-4-2.
3 of the 4 losses were in OT.

Congrats on a great season gentlemen! Good luck to Seniors and thanks Coaches for a great year!

SECTIONAL TICKET SALES

Presale tickets for the Sectional Final will go on sale tomorrow Thursday 2/25/10 at 7:30 am at the High School. Tickets will be sold both Thursday and Friday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Cost is $4 for all tickets (Student and Adult) no passes allowed. Limit of 6 tickets per individual, if more than 6 tickets are needed please contact Ryan Vogler at OHS.

ONA WINS 1st Round Play-off Game

_DSC5500Onalaska defeated Tomah Thursday night in the first round of thier 2010 WIAA State Playoff bid. The Hilltoppers put in a convincing game winning 4-1 and outshooting the Timberwolves 40-20. Tomah dominated the first period until Igor Karaba scored on a shot from the Blue Line. Jesse Tredinnick added a goal early in 2nd, and Nathan Trannel got the 3rd later on a PP. Keaton Bronston finished up Ona’s scoring to end the period. Tomah would score with minutes left in the 3rd. Onalaska will now play #2 seed Wis Dells next Tuesday night there.

Onalaska’s Mitch Thompson #35 suits up with the Badger Men’s Hockey team.  Mitch was only suited (and televised) in the recent outdoors showcase game in Camp Randal vs. Michigan!

The team bids farewell to this years Seniors which include Nathan Trannel, Mason Sedlacek, Nathan Groshek, Egor, Vlado, and not pictured Christian Lunde.

Onalaska Finishes Regular Season 17-3-2.

The Hilltoppers finished their regular season with a convincing 5-2 win over neighboring Winona. The Hilltoppers thus end their regular season with a 17-3-2 record, good for 2nd place in the WCHL 1/2 game behind Champion Sparta. The Toppers tied Tomah and USM, and all three losses were by 2 goals or less. The team will play the winner of Tomah vs. Viroqua this thursday night at the OMNI in their first game of the State Playoffs.

OHS Seeded #3

The seedings for WIAA State plaoyffs are in and the OHS Boys are Seeded #3 in Section 4. The top 6 seedings are:
1.) Sparta 2.) Wis Dells 3.) Onalaska 4.) Wis Rapids 5.) Aquinas 6.) Tomah. Sectional Playoff begins Next Tuesday February 16.
