Ona’s Tyler Ebner and Caleb Blank both tallied goals in the 1st period as the Hilltoppers beat USM 2-1 Friday night to end their regular season with a record of 19-3-1.
The Onalaska Boys Hockey team has been seeded #3 for the upcoming WIAA State Playoffs. The Hill Toppers will get a bye in the first round, and will play the winner of Viroqua vs. Aquinas on February 19 at 5:00 p.m. at the Onalaska OMNI Center. They are in same section as #2 Reedsburg Coop. Wisconsin Rapids was Seeded #1, and is in the same bracket as #4 seed West Salem. The Sectional final will be at the Onalaska OMNI Center on February 27 at 7:00 p.m.
On the weekend of January 30, two Onalaska hockey brothers competed against each other on the College level in Eau Claire as UW-STOUT Sr. Captain Jordan Tredinnick’s Blue Devil team faced UW-EAU CLAIRE Freshman Jesse Tredinnick’s Blue Gold Team. The #12 ranked Blue Golds came out on top Friday night was a 5-3 win over Stout. Jordan Tredinnick tallied a power play goal for the Blue Devils, while being guarded by his brother. On Saturday night, the Stout Blue Devils won 4-3. The game featured 3 sets of brothers, the Tredinnick’s, Ross and Karl Anderson from River Falls, and the Wolter twins from Fairbanks Alaska. The two teams will face each other again on February 19 in Menomonie. They may also meet again the in WIAC Conference Play-offs.
Onalaska Forward Bennett Hutson and Defenseman Branden Gargaro were honored in by the Wisconsin Elite Hockey League this past season. The gentlemen played for the Southwest division of the league. The WEHL include elite players from the various areas of the State of Wis hockey conferences, and includes a fall season and playoff before the regular hockey season begins. 2012 Onalaska Grad Jesse Tredinnick will be playing hockey for the UW-Eau Claire BlueGolds in the upcoming season. Tredinnick played for OHS from 2009 – 2012 and holds several career records. Jess has spent the last two years playing for the NAHL – Coulee Region Chill. Eau Claire is where past Ona grad Steve Dus ended up his career.
Jesse will also be competing against his older brother Jordan (OHS 2009) who is in his senior year at the UW-Stout. The brothers will compete against each other 3 times during the regular season, and as many as 3 more times during playoffs.
Ian Earp, Luke Tepp, Caleb Blenk and John Gargaro were all named to the WIAA 2nd Team All Tournament team for the 2014 State Hockey Tournament. Congratulations Gentlemen!
The Onalaska Boys stormed into Wis State Hockey Tournament and finished with a very impressive 2nd place finish, losing 1-6 to Verona. The Hilltoppers earned their spot in the Championship game with come from behind wins over KMMO and USM.
